Venezuela Delegation Lands in U.S. to Rebuild Embassy

(MENAFN) A Venezuelan diplomatic delegation has arrived in Washington to formally reestablish the country's embassy in the United States, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry announced Friday, marking a pivotal step in the fragile restoration of bilateral ties between the two nations.

Leading the delegation are Vice Foreign Minister for Europe and North America Oliver Blanco and newly appointed chargé d'affaires Felix Plasencia, tasked with reviving a mission that had long been dormant amid years of severed relations.

In a video circulated across social media platforms, Blanco confirmed that the team had already engaged in high-level talks with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and other senior American officials, describing the engagements as part of a structured working agenda.

Plasencia, for his part, underscored the human dimension of the mission, stating that the visit aims to address issues of concern to Venezuelan citizens.

The deployment of the delegation follows a landmark agreement struck on March 5 between Caracas and Washington to formally restore diplomatic relations — a breakthrough announced earlier this week by Venezuela's acting President Delcy Rodriguez, who declared the country ready to resume full embassy operations on U.S. soil.

The diplomatic thaw comes against a dramatic geopolitical backdrop: on January 3, U.S. military forces conducted a large-scale strike against Venezuela, capturing President Nicolas Maduro and his wife and transporting them to the United States. Weeks later, on January 31, a U.S. diplomatic mission landed in Caracas, formally reigniting official contact between the two governments.
