The minister cited past US interventions in countries like Venezuela as examples of resource-driven policies justified under political pretexts, claiming such moves are more about control than legitimate governance concerns.
Addressing sanctions on Russian energy exports, Lavrov called them “outright illegitimate” and said they have minimal practical impact on shipments that were already underway. He added that, for Russia and its reliable trading partners, the sanctions effectively do not exist.
Lavrov’s remarks come amid widespread claims that Russia could be a major beneficiary of the Middle East conflict due to rising oil prices and increased demand for Russian energy, a notion he firmly rejected.
