Trump Says India to Buy Venezuelan Oil Instead of Iran

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump said Saturday that India will begin buying oil from Venezuela rather than Iran, and suggested that China could also make a similar deal.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said that an agreement has been reached in principle. “We’ve already made that deal. India is coming in, and they’re going to be buying Venezuelan oil, as opposed to buying it from Iran. So, we’ve already made that deal, the concept of the deal,” he said. “China is welcome to come in and buy oil,” he added.

Trump’s comments come amid a broader US effort to encourage countries to diversify their oil sources. He has recently signaled that some sanctions on Venezuela’s oil industry may be eased so that more Venezuelan crude can be traded internationally.
