China Defends Venezuela Ties, Criticizes “Excessive” US Actions

(MENAFN) China on Tuesday emphasized that its relationship with Venezuela remains "sovereign," denouncing what it called "excessive" actions against ships following US military strikes in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean.

At a news briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning stated that the partnership between China and Venezuela is not aimed at any third country and cannot be disrupted or influenced by external actors.

Mao addressed inquiries concerning Venezuela, led by President Nicholas Maduro, "seeking missiles, drones, and other military equipment from China, Russia, and Iran to prevent possible attacks by the US."

Highlighting China’s position, Mao said the country maintains a "clear-cut stance on the US cracking down on so-called drug cartels by force in the Caribbean Sea."

She voiced support for "the efforts of combating cross-border crimes through stronger international cooperation" while opposing the use of force in international affairs.

Beijing also "stands against the moves that undermine peace and stability in the LAC (Latin American) region and opposes unilateral and excessive enforcement operations against other countries’ vessels," Mao added.

Since September, Washington has conducted more than a dozen strikes targeting suspected narco-trafficking ships, mostly in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean, resulting in at least 64 deaths.

Mao concluded by expressing hope that the US would carry out law enforcement and judicial actions within "normal" frameworks via both bilateral and multilateral legal cooperation.
